Since smoking is appearing to be a thorny issue, I think the directors can substitute cigarettes with 'alcohol'. Black tea in a strong stuff bottle can do the trick. Even if DRC might just be puffing away and not really smoking, his fellow actors will inhale the smoke as passive smokers.

I am sure they want to depict unemployed youths who are also drug addicts. Drinking black tea in a strong stuff bottle will keep him and the other actors safe. He might not be inhaling the smoke and just puffing away but it will certainly make the other actors passive smokers. Cigarette smoke knows no boundary
